Beautycounter Product Review

Wednesday, October 19, 2016
I had been seeing a lot of talk about Beautycounter lately since they made their way into Target for a short period so I was really excited when my friend Kendra reached out to be about trying some products! She is a Beautycounter consultant who truly loves the products and I could tell by the way she was talking about them. She graciously let me pick out a few products to try and the most intriguing ones that I found on the site were the Peppermint Lip Conditioner, Lip Sheer, Sea Salt Spray and Charcoal Mask.

Before we get into the review, let me tell you a little about the company and why they interested me in the first place! Beautycounter is actively advocating better skin care across the board by strictly regulating the ingredients they put in the products. They follow the FDA regulations of the UK since the United States had very little restrictions in beauty care and they haven't been updated since 1937! How concerning is that!? Their mission is to remove all harmful ingredients from beauty and everyday care products. And what really makes them different from other companies is that that they keep true to their mission without compromising the effectiveness and quality of the products.

Beautycounter Peppermint Lip Conditioner, $20

By the name, I thought this product would be something more than a lip balm and that's kind of exactly what it is - something that is a step up from a regular lip balm. This lip conditioner comes in a little pot where you dip your finger in and rub it on your lips which I'm not a huge fan of but I knew that was the process when I ordered it. I wish it was in a typical lip balm tube but it's not the end of the world. All in all, I think this lip conditioner is a great product but nothing too extra special. I like wearing this at night and I feel like it helps to hydrate my lips!

Beautycounter Sea Salt Spray, $26

I am always intrigued by sea salt sprays! I've tried a few and none of them have really done anything for my hair or stood out to me in any way and unfortunately this spray is the same as all the others. It has a pretty odd smell to it and didn't do much to my natural waves. I honestly don't have much to say about this product - it didn't mess up or ruin my hair in any way but also didn't highlight my natural waves like it was supposed to; it's just kind of 'bleh' to me. Apparently there are a few different ways that Beautycounter suggests using this product here. I was using Look 4 since that fit my hair type and style the best.

Beautycounter Lip Sheer (in Petal), $30

This was definitely my favorite Beautycounter product from the ones I received. I am in love with this lip sheer!! For me, hydration is my biggest priority when it comes to any kind of lip color. I naturally have cracked lips - no matter how smooth and hydrated they are. So typical lipsticks or any kind of matte product never looks good on me because it just accentuates the lines in my lips. This lip sheer is perfect for me because it does not do that. It has hydrating qualities and is also pretty opaque. Of course, it's not going to be completely pigmented like a lipstick, but for me, it really works! I like the color and I like the formula. So if you are in the market for a balm-type lip color, definitely try this! The only complaint I can think of is the higher price point but that's typical of a premium product.

Beautycounter Lip Sheer in Petal

Beautycounter Charcoal Mask, $45

I had really high hopes for this product but unfortunately it made me break out really badly. I tried it 3 different times and really liked the way it felt on my skin but I just couldn't keep trying it with my skin breaking out the way it was. The mask is a smooth, thick texture that you apply and leave on for just 10-15 minutes until it hardens, then rinse it off with water. While it's drying, you can see every little pore on your face appear in the mask - it's awesomely gross. I really liked how my skin felt after the mask too; it felt clean with just the right amount of tightness. I so badly wish it didn't irritate my skin because I think it may work really well!

**Update: Since writing this, I told Kendra my thoughts on each product and she informed me that there is a "detox period" while using this mask because it's so strong. Plus, I have really sensitive skin so this may have added to the reaction. She suggested I use it once a week as my skin gets used to it so I may continue to try it.
